The rebate program is an initiative under the SAVE program to focus on stimulating sales of energy efficient appliances by increasing the demand through rebates for consumers.

The program will also reduce the price premium of selected energy efficient appliances in the market. The rebate program will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified domestic consumers who will qualify to purchase 5-Star rated appliances through participating retailers.

The rebate program will start on July 7, 2011 and will last until all rebates are taken in 2012.

This program is spearheaded by the Ministry of Energy, Green Technology and Water (KeTTHA). It is one of the initiatives undertaken as part of the National Key Economic Area (NKEA) for Oil, Gas and Energy through Entry Point Project 9 (EPP9) to improve energy efficiency in the country.

Products that qualify for the rebate program are air conditioners, refrigerators and industrial chiller(s).

Eligibility criteria are as follows:

Refrigerators : Must be 5-Star rated by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) with net capacity up to 400 litres.

Air conditioners: Must be 5-Star rated by the Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga), wall-mounted split unit type with capacity up to 2.5 Horse Power (HP).

Chiller(s): Energy efficient chillers to replace old chillers aged 15 years or more, only for comfort cooling in commercial buildings.

There are currently 12 brands participating in the rebate program. Please refer to the EE Appliance List on this website for more information.

The total quantity for each appliances in the program are as follows:
Refrigerators – 100,000 units
Air conditioners – 65,000 units
Chiller(s) (Industrial) – 72,000 RT

The rebate amounts were proposed by the Ministry based on discussions held with various stakeholders, i.e brand owners, distributors and retailers. The rebate amount is deemed as sufficient to kick-start the program and trigger competitive and affordable EE appliances pricing for Malaysian consumers.

Log in on www.saveenergy.gov.my and print the rebate voucher according to your eligibility.
Alternatively, you can print it at a SAVE roadshow / TNB ( Kedai Tenaga ) /SESCO/SESB / participating retailers near you.

You must meet the following criteria:
Must be a Malaysian consumer.
Must purchase a new 5-Star rated refrigerator and air conditioner as listed in the EE Appliance List on this website.
Must make the purchase within one month from the date of voucher printed.
Must submit a copy of your electricity bill, proof of purchase and IC to your retailer on the day of purchase.

No. KeTTHA has not appointed any party, agent or individual on its behalf to give the voucher to qualified consumers. The rebate voucher can only be printed here, at TNB/SESB/Syarikat SESCO Bhd outlets or a participating retailer.

The IC need not be the same as the one listed on the electricity bill. We understand that some buyers will be tenants so we want to accommodate their needs as well. In Peninsular Malaysia, the rebate is offered to eligible consumers that are registered as TNB customers or any resident of a house that has a TNB account. They can log in on www.saveenergy.gov.my to print the rebate voucher according to eligibility.

For Sabah, Labuan and Sarawak, only registered customers with SESB/Syarikat SESCO Bhd are eligible to log in and print rebate vouchers.

If you have more than one electricity bill that is eligible for rebate vouchers, you may purchase your EE appliances using the same IC.

Retailers will sell appliances according to the participating brand owners’ pricing instructions. The rebate program entitles consumers to obtain a rebate on the retail purchase price of the chosen appliance.

We have allocated a number of units in each state based on the ratio of registered electricity energy users with TNB in Peninsular Malaysia, and SESB and Syarikat SESCO Bhd for East Malaysia. Quantity re-allocation will be considered by the government according to the progress of the rebate program. Any change in the allocation will be announced by KeTTHA. If you're in Peninsular Malaysia, you must declare the difference in names, which will allow you to print the voucher.
If you're in Sabah, Labuan, and Sarawak, your name as per IC must correspond to the name on the electricity bill.

Your rebate voucher is valid for a month from the date of printing. The expiry date is also stated on your voucher. During the one month validity period, you may purchase your 5-Star rated EE appliance nationwide to redeem your rebate.

This depends on the brand of your new EE appliance as well as where you purchased it from.

You may head to your nearest TNB/SESB/Syarikat SESCO Bhd outlet or participating retailer to check your eligibility and to print rebate vouchers.

You can claim your rebate within the month of printing your the rebate voucher. Thereafter, the rebate voucher expires and you will not be able to register for a new voucher.

You can request for more information at your nearest TNB/SESB/Syarikat SESCO Bhd outlet.

Yes. You can login and reprint your voucher. Do take note that your voucher number and validity dates will mirror those stated on the voucher you lost.

As long as the voucher number and validity date are present on the voucher, the voucher will be deemed valid and may be redeemed at participating retail outlets.

Participating brand owners and retailers will strive to maintain a continuous level of stock as well as play an active role in ensuring that consumers are constantly updated about the rebate program.

The most important classification that you should look out for is the 5-star rated logo by Energy Commission. It is mandatory for all brand owners to display this rating on their rebate-eligible products.

It has been proven that 5-Star rated appliances are 25% more energy efficient than average 3-Star rated appliances.

However, your electricity bill savings will vary depending on your household's electricity consumption.

RM 200 per RT for new energy efficient chiller(s).

The application is open to any private company registered in Malaysia.

Applicants must possess chiller(s) for comfort cooling or as standby chiller(s) at operational condition for commercial buildings only.

Applicants must also purchase new eligible energy efficient units to replace existing ones. Applicants must make the purchase within the specified rebate offer period from participating manufacturers.

Application must be submitted to KeTTHA with completed application form for technical evaluation and approval.
